· Understand the foundations of experimental design and discuss last week's readings on experimental design.
· Understand the ethical principles guiding the protection of human participants in research.
· Understand the policies guiding the conduct of research with human participants at Pepperdine.

Ethical Conduct of Research with Humans
On the Pepperdine University IRB (Human Subject's Protections Committee) web site, do the following:
Read the Belmont Report
Pages 6-31 of the IRB Manual for Investigators (link - will download an MS Word document)
Review the Decision Tree at http://www.pepperdine.edu/irb/irbforms/
On the Pepperdine University IRB (Human Subject's Protections Committee) web site, complete the tutorial for investigators located on the Investigator Education page. A direct link to the tutorial is here. After completing the tutorial, print 2 copies of the completion certificate. Retain 1 copy of the certificate for yourself and turn the other certificate in to me on 3/9/06.
