Biomechanics
Assignment #2
Due 1/11/08
You must come to class on 1/11/08 prepared to explain an exercise device, product or program sold to the public via an infomercial or web site. The following restrictions apply:
The device/product must be currently available.
The device/product must require *movement* at one or more major body joints. Specifically, it should not be a diet plan, massager, electrical stimulation device, workout plan, etc. Further, it should not be a mini-gym (e.g., the BowFlex - http://www.bowflex.com) that allows for multiple movements.
The device must mimic an analogous movement that can be conducted without the device. For example, suppose I chose the Jump Snap as my device (http://jumpsnap.com/index2.html), I could compare the movement required to use this device with a person jumping using a traditional jump rope.
You should have a web link to the product/device. Email me the link no later than 8 am on Friday 1/11/08.
The product should not exceed $99 in price, preferably much less.
Do not email me questions or inquiries related to this assignment. This is an opportunity for you to show me your creativity and investigative/internet skills as you seek to find a device/product meeting these requirements.
Be prepared to present your device in 30-60 seconds. Once you have identified the device/product, you should be prepared to respond to these two questions.
After reviewing the product and its claims, what questions do you have regarding its effectiveness?
How would you scientifically evaluate the credibility and accuracy of the claims?
